Gift Guide: Best Outdoor Gear I Tested in 2010

My wife hates trying to shop for me. She says I have everything. She’s mostly right: I have so much gear she no longer has any idea what I have. And what I don’t have and need—“need” being the most relative word in the dictionary—she wouldn’t attempt to buy for me without a little guidance from moi.

I’m kinda picky about gear.

You know somebody like that? If so, spend a few minutes going through my gift guide below of the best outdoor stuff I tested in 2010 for Backpacker Magazine and TheBigOutside.com. The list includes three pairs of boots, three backpacks (a weekender and a weeklong pack for adults, and a kid backpack), an amazingly warm winter glove, a super versatile fleece pullover, a killer waterproof case for an SLR camera, rock-climbing shoes, lightweight crampons for icy trails, an umbrella that’s perfect for the backcountry, stuff sacks and dry bags.

You might find a sweet item to satisfy the hard-to-buy-for person on your list.

The gift guide:

Aku Suiterra Suede GTX boot
Aquapac waterproof SLR camera case
Black Diamond Infinity 50 pack
Black Diamond Soloist Glove
Davek Traveler Umbrella
Kahtoola Microspikes
Keen Red Rock Mid boot
Montrail Mountain Masochist Mid GTX boot
Mountain Hardwear Microstretch Zip Tee
Outdoor Research Graphic Dry Sacks and Lateral Dry Bags
REI Comet kids’ backpack
Scarpa Thunder rock shoes
The North Face Primero 85 backpack
